About half way between Don and Betty's at Concan to the Mexican Border is Brackettville. In 1957 the Alamo was built for the movie by John Wayne. It took almost 2 years to complete the adobe mission and town and filing began in August 1959.
Since that time there have been over 50 movies use the location, over a dozen documentaries and music videos, and untold number of commercials. So the place is well used and well preserved, and a fun place to see. The present population of the village is 2, the Sheriff and his wife. While he is keeping everyone locked up, she is working in the Cantina (snack shop). We had fun stopping by and seeing the old town and breaking out of jail.
|as you can see they have everything they need to turn this back into an active movie set|
